By Thys Blom, Chairman
As the year 2025 draws to a close, it offers us an opportunity to reflect on the broader global and national developments that have shaped our environment, as well as the progress and challenges experienced within the disability sector. The past year has presented significant social and economic pressures in South Africa, alongside shifts and uncertainties observed across the world. These circumstances have, understandably, impacted our communities, institutions, and the individuals we serve.
Despite these challenges, the resilience displayed by persons with disabilities, their families, and the broader support network remains commendable. The disability sector continues to advocate for equitable access to services, improved inclusion, and the protection of rights. It is clear that although much work remains, the commitment shown throughout 2025 has strengthened our resolve and deepened our sense of purpose.
Within the Breede Valley APD, we have remained steadfast in our mission to provide essential support, guidance, and advocacy for persons with disabilities. Our staff, volunteers, partners, and donors have demonstrated exceptional dedication, ensuring continuity of service and support in a time when it is needed most. I extend my sincere appreciation to each one for their contribution to our organisation’s stability and impact.
Strategic Outlook for 2026
As we look ahead to 2026, the organisation will continue to:
- Prioritise service delivery that upholds dignity and human rights
- Strengthen advocacy efforts to promote accessibility and inclusion
- Deepen collaborative relationships with government structures, organisations, and community stakeholders
- Enhance support for families and caregivers
- Empower persons with disabilities through programmes that advance independence, participation, and wellbeing
Our commitment remains firm: to build a more inclusive, supportive, and equitable environment for all persons with disabilities in the Breede Valley.
Christmas Message
As we enter the festive season, may this period bring peace, reflection, and renewed hope. Christmas reminds us of compassion, unity, and the importance of community, all values that lie at the heart of our organisation’s work.
On behalf of Breede Valley APD, I extend warm wishes for a blessed Christmas and a safe, prosperous, and purpose-driven New Year.
Sincerely,
Thys Blom
