“πππππ ππ π‘βπ βπππ, πππππ ππ π‘βπ π€ππππ.” These profound words by Mustafa Kemal AtatΓΌrk resonate deeply as we embark on the significant journey of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence. This year, the campaign was inaugurated at Boland Park, marking a collective commitment to end violence against women and children.
The 16 Days of Activism is not just a campaign; ππ ππ π ππππππ ππππ ππ ππππππ. It is a time when individuals and organizations around the world unite to combat the scourge of violence against women and children. The campaign, which runs annually from 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, to 10 December, Human Rights Day, emphasizes that human rights cannot be fully realized in a world where violence against women and children persists.
At Boland Park, the opening ceremony was a poignant reminder of the work that lies ahead. It was heartening to see the community and various role players come together, demonstrating a unified front against this injustice. Key participants included the Boland Violence Against People Department (BVAPD), Trauma Counseling Center (TCC), Women Empowerment Groups (WEG), Ministry of Social and Intercommunity Cohesion (MOSIC), local POLISIE, KHULISA Social Solutions, Department of Social Development (DSD), and representatives from the Cape Winelands District Municipality (BVM).
Each organization plays a vital role in this fight, offering unique resources and support. From providing counseling and legal assistance to victims, to conducting educational workshops and advocacy programs, these groups are at the forefront of driving change.
As we move through these 16 days, let us all remember that the fight against gender-based violence is not confined to a specific period on the calendar. It is a continuous battle that requires our unwavering commitment. We must stand together, not just as a community, but as a nation and a global society, to say no to violence and yes to a world where peace begins in our homes and extends to the world.
Join us in this crucial campaign. Your voice, your actions, and your support can make a difference. Let’s stand united against injustice and work towards a future where every woman and child lives in a world free from fear and violence.
